Mwanewa marine sanctuary
& Eco-camp
-
Visit one of the jewels of Milne bay. This 5 island atoll boasts around 20 kms of reef walls and is one of the best dive sites you will visit……
-
Dive straight off the beach in to some of the last untouched reef systems in the world. The deep water drop at Mwanewa’s edge is 1000 meters straight down, providing deep water currents that have saved the region from past large scale bleaching events that have happened in many tropical reef ecosystems. Here you can dive bommies that have vary rarely been dived or fished and are just teaming with life. Expansive coral cover, big fish, whales dolphins, mantas, orca…..the list of what you could see here goes on and on.
For decades now, Mwanewa has been under pressure from an expanding community wanting to take advantage of its rich natural resource, however traditional owners, Leballi and his sons have been working hard to maintain and protect the ecosystem under a self managed marine sanctuary. We are proud to partner and provide what support we can to this incredible paradise and our eco tours help greatly! At Mwanewa we do limited season, limited guests, bush camps on the main island, hosting up to 20 guests only, sleeping in our comfortable bush camp, nestled under the trees right on the beach of the island. Email us for enquiries and be part of protecting one of the last great wilderness systems in the world.
Wialoki marine sanctuary
-
Visit our community based lodge and restoration project and be a part of change. Enjoy all the wonders of a holiday on an active traditional community island in the middle of a larger vibrant island community.
-
Relax, dive, walk, visit local schools and markets, go fishing, bird watching, there is a lot to do here and also a lot of nothing to do if you just want to let the beauty of the place wrap around you. While with us, keep your hands busy and help us with our coral and seagrass planting programs, help out with our turtle conservation or any of the other active community projects we strive to keep alive and involved in.
Did I mention that the diving, fishing and bird watching are absolutely world class? Our project mission here is to build this in to a real education and training hub. This is a place where we can share and expand our knowledge and understanding from both a traditional/cultural point of view, as well as from a scientific angle, sharing a better understanding of the life in these regions with both the local and international community.
Email us for enquiries on how and when you can visit and support our conservation and education project in the middle of a coral wilderness.
Remote Islands Expeditions
-
This one! This one is one of our favourite trips! Join our core team, lead by Field+Fin founder Daz Byrne as we boat around the Milne bay region.
-
Our fleet of dinghies runs our guests along reefs and out to island groups, visiting local communities and hot spots for diving, fishing and bird watching. Our staff team runs ahead to set up the new camp and tents each day, while we meander between different remote locations, experiencing what Milne bay does best. Magic!
We currently limit these trips to two a year, with the locations changing every season depending on the weather, the tide, the moon and whats happening culturally in the region. These really are wild adventures, where safety, comfort, connection and unforgettable experience are our compass. Email enquires for our next Remote Islands Expeditions dates.
